Manufacture & Care

Each piece is entirely handcrafted by Sherylin Birth in her ateliers located in Lugano (Ticino) and Lausanne (Vaud), Switzerland. Due to the artisanal techniques used, each jewel is unique and one of a kind, with slight variances.
The process used to develop the jewelry is a crucial part of the work and creates its organic signature look. Each piece is therefore irregular, and traces of the process are kept visible to highlight the beauty of artisanal work.
The entire production — from metal casting, stone setting to gold plating — is carried out exclusively in-house, with no part outsourced. This ensures full control over quality and reinforces the distinctive aesthetic of the label.

Metals and Materials(+)

Each piece is thoughtfully crafted using high-quality 100% recycled metals such as brass, 925 sterling silver, 18k gold plating, vermeil or Solid Gold.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, is naturally nickel-free. Over time, it develops a soft patina when exposed to air and moisture, revealing subtle yellow tones that enhance the piece’s character. I choose to leave the brass uncoated—free of varnish— in order to let the material speak for itself. Before each piece leaves the atelier, it is carefully hand-polished to ensure a bright, clean finish. Any oxidation that appears over time can be removed using a gentle metal polish and a soft cloth.

Sterling silver, like brass, evolves with exposure to the elements. It oxidizes in a variety of shades that can result in beautiful faint colors. Its original shine can easily be restored with a silver polishing cloth.

18k gold-plated brass pieces are coated with a layer of 18k gold through a 20-minute bath carried out in my own atelier. This process results in a thickness of 6 microns, ensuring excellent durability and a long-lasting finish.
To maintain their beauty, clean them gently with a soft brush and mild soap. Avoid using polishing cloths or metal cleaners, as they may strip away the gold layer. Remove these pieces before bathing, swimming, exercising, or applying perfume, hairspray, or lotion, as moisture and chemicals can accelerate wear.

Vermeil pieces, which feature a thick layer of 18k gold applied over sterling silver, must meet the industry standard of at least 2.5 microns of gold. In my atelier, each piece is coated with 6 microns of gold, ensuring an even more durable and long-lasting finish. Like the 18k gold plated brass pieces, vermeil jewelry requires delicate care. Tarnishing is natural and expected over time, influenced by factors such as body chemistry, humidity, frequency of wear, and care habits.
Avoid wearing vermeil jewelry while bathing, swimming, exercising, or applying beauty products. When needed, clean it gently using a soft brush and mild soap, and avoid using abrasive cloths or metal polish, as these can damage or remove the gold layer.

Solid Gold is available upon request. Some designs can be custom-made with a selection of 14k, 18k, or fine gold. We work exclusively with Fair Trade and recycled gold, ensuring ethical sourcing and responsible craftsmanship.

Lab-Grown Gems offer a sustainable alternative to traditional mining methods, significantly reducing environmental harm. Lab-grown gems exhibit identical properties to natural gemstones, from their molecular makeup to their durability, using less energy and fewer natural resources. Meaning you don’t have to sacrifice beauty and quality to make an ethical choice.

Natural Gemstone We prioritise the ethical sourcing of the natural gemstones to minimise societal and environmental harm. Whether repurposed or sourced from trusted suppliers with traceable supply chains, the natural gemstones we use are conflict-free and responsibly mined.

Pearls are softer than mineral gemstones and require delicate care. They’re sensitive to alcohol and other ingredients in hairspray, perfume, and cosmetics—so always put on your pearl jewelry last. Store pearls in a soft pouch, away from other jewelry, to avoid scratches that can’t be polished out. To clean, gently wipe them with a soft cotton cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, chemicals, or metal polishes, as these can damage the pearl’s surface.

Ceramic pieces are delicate and precious. Take good care while wearing them and don’t drop them on a hard surface. Store in a box with some wadding and handle them with care to prevent them from breaking and cracking.

After-Sales Service(+)

Replating Service and Polishing is possible for a fee. A high-quality gold plating service is available for previously purchased brass or silver pieces, or to refresh your existing gold plating with 18K gold. This service is performed personally to ensure the best results. Additionally, brass pieces can be polished to restore their original shine. For more information on pricing, please contac info@sherylin.ch. Please note that shipping costs for these services are to be covered by the customer.

Repairs are possible if a piece gets damaged. Please email info@sherylin.ch to inquire about your specific case.
